DENVER (AP) -- Anti-tax crusader Douglas Bruce is in jail serving a 180-day sentence for tax evasion.
Bruce reported to court on Friday morning and then taken to jail.
The Denver Post reported that Bruce asked to be handcuff in a separate room but was led out after being handcuffed in the courtroom.
Bruce was sentenced Monday after being convicted on charges of evading state taxes. Prosecutors say he hid millions of dollars in a sham charity that he set up to avoid taxes.
The judge ordered Bruce to pay nearly $50,000 in restitution and court costs. He also is being required to share personal financial information with the government, including his checking accounts and investments.
Bruce maintains his innocence and is vowing to appeal.
