COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A candlelight vigil was held for a teenager who was killed in a car crash Tuesday evening in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs Police officers said 17-year-old Bethany Maes Morales was killed on impact.

There were three other children in the car, including Bethany's 6-year-old sister Grace.

Grace is still in the hospital but has been listed in stable condition.

The two other children have been treated and released.

Thursday the community rallied around the Morales family at a vigil held at Doherty High School.

"It's been really hard, really hard, she was close to a lot of people," Felysha Rodriguez, a friend, said.

Mourners wore purple and Lakers gear, Bethany's favorite color and team.

"She just enjoyed the simple things, just being with people made her happy, so that inspired me," Darian Sanchez, another friend, said.

While her friends and family face difficult times ahead they don't have to face them alone.

"We have a firefighter beside her 24/7 since it happened," Matthew Love, Chief of the Cimarron Hills Fire Department, said.

Bethany's mother, Lupita Morales, is an office assistant at the Cimarron Hills Fire Department and is learning what it means to be a part of the fire family.

"We've been staying the night with her and spending a lot of time with her," Love said.

He said it feels like the department has lost one of their own.

"She was a phenomenal individual, this gal. She came to fire department dinners with us and was certainly one of the family members, and we're all feeling the loss," Love said.

Love said the department is doing the best they can to offer both emotional and financial support during this difficult time.

"Their only vehicle was destroyed in the incident and so we're kind of reaching out hoping that we can find some assistance in replacing that vehicle," Love said.

As the community gathered to show their support Thursday night sounds of weeping mixed with Amazing Grace as they remembered a young teen they said will always be missed.

"She'll never be replaced ever, and now she knows there is a lot of people who care about her and love her," Rodriguez said.

Donations to the Morales family can be made at any First Bank in Colorado Springs under the "Morales Memorial" fund.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

There will also be a fundraiser held at Frankies Bar & Grille and Frankie's Too sometime in January.
