COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Nearly 200 Fort Carson soldiers were welcomed home Wednesday.

Soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team have been in Afghanistan for the past six months.

They returned home ahead of schedule after a successful completion of their mission.

The Warhorse Brigade is working with the Afghan National Army and Afghan uniformed police to increase stability and security throughout the Western province of Herta.

"It's good that he'll be home for Christmas, for the first Christmas," Tonia Shunk, a Ft. Carson army wife said.

The welcome home ceremony was a chance for Specialist Justin Shunk to hold his daughter for the first time.

Ann Marie Lucille was born six-weeks ago, while he was oversees.

Though he couldn't be there in person he was on the phone for his wife's 30-hours of labor.

"God has blessed me severely and with everything that's been going on," Specialist Justin Shunk, of the U.S. Army said.

The brigade is helping with humanitarian aid projects, patrols, and combat outpost defense.

The 2nd brigade solders remaining will continue their mission.
