Accident near Walsenburg kills one

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a car crash that left one person dead just north of Walsenburg.

Troopers said that the crash happened Thursday morning after a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 69 veered off the right side of the road.

As the driver attempted to get back on the road the car collided with a road sign and the end of a bridge railing.

The driver died at the scene.

Authorities said that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Alcohol and drug use are not suspected to be factors in the accident.

The State Patrol is withholding the victim's name until the next of kin can be notified.
