Man walking dog killed after being hit by car

PUEBLO, COLO. -- Pueblo Police officers said a man who was walking his dog was killed Monday night when a car hit him in Pueblo.

Officers said the man was walking his dog around 11:54 p.m. westbound across Prairie Avenue from Putnam. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was driving his Jeep southbound on Prairie when he hit the dog walker.

The man was thrown 75 feet. Witnesses pulled him to the corner and attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.

Officers said he died at the scene. They won't release his name but said he is 56 years old.

The dog survived.

Officers said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
