DEA, police to collect prescription drugs

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Colorado Springs Police Department are teaming up to collect prescription drugs on Saturday.

Officers said the Take Back initiative is an opportunity for people to submit pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to officers for destruction.

Officers will have drop off boxes at three city locations between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. The DEA will provide the boxes and pick of the drugs for disposal at the end of the day. Officers will secure the drugs until the DEA picks them up.

Items eligible for collection include tablets, capsules and other solid dosage units, Officers will not accept intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes or illicit narcotics.
