The first significant snow of the season!
 / FOX21: Matthew Kruger
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Wednesday's snowstorm brought widespread snow, cold temperatures and deadly road conditions. But the storm moved out as quickly as it had come.
Sunshine returns to the state as drier air works in. Many of the mountain ski resorts aren't complaining, though. A foot or more of snow was recorded in the higher elevations east of the Continental Divide.
The recent warm temperatures kept the snow from sticking to roadways in southern Colorado until later in the day. Grassy surfaces saw higher accumulations, while roadways did not ice over until the afternoon. A band of heavier snow moved through El Paso county by the mid-afternoon, and that enhanced accumulations across the city.
By Thursday morning, the rain and snow had shifted into New Mexico and Texas. Temperatures were below zero across Wyoming, but clouds held temperatures in the 20s in southern Colorado. Snow will slowly start to melt as the sun returns for Thursday afternoon, but temperatures will run 10-20 degrees below average.
