COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Friends and family will gather at Fort Carson Wednesday afternoon in order to welcome home a group of 40 Fort Carson soldiers.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Special Events Center on Post for Explosive Ordnance Disposal soldiers.

The company has been in Afghanistan in support of operation Enduring Freedom where they performed ordnance disposal operations for the Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team.

The soldiers conducted more than 850 emergency response combat missions, including 350 responses to reported explosive devices.

The group returns highly decorated with five purple hearts and 17 bronze star medals among its members.
