CANON CITY, COLO. -- A motorcyclist who led Canon City Police officers on a chase is now in jail after ending it by crashing into a squad car.
According to Canon City Police officers, an officer attempted to stop Charles Gonzales, a Villa Grove resident, after noticing he was riding without his lights on around 9 p.m. Monday. Gonzales did not stop and tried eluding the officer.
The chase went along Highway 50 from 12th Street through the parking lot at the Western Convenience Store, east through the south alley, onto Rainbow Drive, then onto Orchard Avenue. Gonzales then rode off the road onto the right-of-way between the railroad tracks and Highway 50.

s continued eastbound along Highway 50 to Reynolds Avenue, where he collided with a second Canon City Police car that was responding to assist.
Gonzales and a boy were thrown from the motorcycle. Both were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Police checked the license and found the motorcycle had been stolen from Saguache County. They also found a gun and suspected drugs on the motorcycle.
Gonzales has been charged with DUI, reckless driving, eluding and numerous traffic charges, with additional charges pending. He is in the Fremont County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
No police officers were injured.
