CASTLE ROCK, COLO. (AP) -- Authorities say two children found dead in their Castle Rock, Colo., home were smothered.

The bodies of 5-year-old Madigan Murphy and her 9-year-old brother, Liam, were found May 23. Their mother, 41-year-old Kelli Murphy, has been charged with two counts of murder in their deaths.

Authorities hadn't previously released details about how the children died. On Friday, the Douglas County coroner's office said the children were smothered in a homicide. It said no other information would be released.

Authorities have said Kelli Murphy called 911 the morning the children were found and said she was going to commit suicide and that her children were in heaven.

Court documents show Murphy and her husband filed for bankruptcy last year and then for divorce in February. Kelli Murphy later tried to withdraw the divorce request.

Castle Rock is about 25 miles south of Denver.
