DENVER (AP) -- An investigator says a small plane that crashed last August and killed two Colorado Springs men probably lost power because it went into a spin that kept fuel from getting to the engines.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Jennifer Rodi said Thursday the circumstances of the crash were rare.
Seventy-six-year-old William Boecking and 60-year-old Daniel Saunders were killed. The plane crashed 30 miles east of Colorado Springs.
Boecking was a commercial pilot. Saunders was an instructor conducting a routine review of Boecking's proficiency.
Rodi says the plane was probably put into a stall as part of the review.
She says that likely caused the plane to begin spinning while remaining about level. She says the centrifugal force probably pushed fuel away from the engines and into the wingtip fuel tanks.
