DENVER (AP) -- State agriculture officials say that as of Friday, there have been five locations in Colorado that tested positive for a disease that can cause fertility problems in cows.
The venereal disease called bovine trichomoniasis can cause aborted calves.
The Colorado Department of Agriculture said Tuesday there have been positive cases in Baca, Costilla, Custer, Las Animas and Otero counties this year.
State Veterinarian Keith Roehr says the low number shows that measures by the livestock industry and agriculture officials are working to limit the disease but that ranchers should continue testing their animals.
Last year, there were nine locations with positive cases. There were 43 positive locations in 2008.
