Fort Campbell soldier killed in Afghanistan

FORT CAMPBELL, KY. (AP) -- A 25-year-old Fort Campbell soldier from Colorado has died in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department says Spc. Brandon M. Kirton of Centennial, Colo., died Wednesday in Kandahar province. The military says he was wounded when insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire and mortar rounds.

Kirton was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
