MONUMENT, COLO. -- All Monument residents are being allowed to return home after a passing train was found leaking hydrochloric acid early Wednesday morning.

Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evacuation orders were lifted for most of the 255 residents in the area. The remaining residents were allowed to return to their homes a short time later.

Officials said because many residents have questions about the incident a flier was distributed giving people information about hydrochloric acid, what they can do for their pets, and how to make insurance claims if necessary.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe is setting up a claims center for people affected by the chemical spill at the Monument City Hall Thursday.

Lewis-Palmer District 38 schools as well as Monument Academy Charter School are scheduled to run as normal Thursday.
