COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- For years toymakers have been creating products for children that imitate real life. They include miniature vacuum cleaners, child size kitchenettes, and baby dolls that eat and then wet their diapers.

Most parents would agree the toys are harmless, but what about a doll that mimics the act of breastfeeding?

Would you buy it for your daughter?

FOX21 hit the streets to find out what parents think about the "Breast Milk Baby."

"I think it is crazy, I would not buy it for my child because there are already young girls trying to be moms, and that is just going to push it more," parent Mesha Calloway said.

Even a local dad sounded off on the toy. The father of four, including a 13-year-old daughter, was stunned.

"It would be unacceptable at my house, it looks like it should be at an expecting mothers class or a sex ed class," parent Weston Witkowski said.

So here is how the doll works. It comes with a special halter top, and when the doll's mouth is brought close to it, the baby makes a sucking sound.

Along with parents, health professionals are also weighing in on the matter.

Local child and family counselor Christy Sorden said breastfeeding should not be considered wrong or shameful, but she added the doll may cross the line.

"As a mother I feel it is important, but as a professional I think we really need to watch what is socially acceptable and where do we draw the line," Sorden said.

As for the damaging effects the toy might have on young girls, Sorden said she does not believe there would by any.

Still, she said she would not buy it for her daughter.

"I feel the priority for a child is to be a child, and they need to learn to be a child before they learn to be an adult," Sorden said.

The maker of the doll, Berjuan Toys, posted a response to the controversy on their website.

It states, "The whole purpose of the Breast Milk Baby is to teach children the nurturing skills they will need to raise their own healthy babies in the future. We really do not understand why this has created such a controversy."

We want to hear what you think about the toy.
