BOULDER, COLO. (AP) -- Police in Boulder say a man killed in a hit-and-run accident had a history of lying down in roadways.

Fifty-four-year-old Ronald Keithline died after being struck by a sport utility vehicle on Saturday evening.

Witnesses said that just before the accident, a red SUV stopped suddenly and swerved onto the sidewalk to avoid something in the road. Then they said they saw a dark-colored SUV hit Keithline about 30 seconds later. That vehicle, perhaps either a Toyota Rav4 or a Nissan Xterra, stopped for a moment but then left.

Boulder police say that Keithline has had a number of interactions with officers in the past.
