COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A section of Tejon Street in Colorado Springs was closed for nearly four hours Friday afternoon after a man jumped from a building downtown.
Tejon was closed between Colorado and Vermijo from 10 a.m. until about 1:30 p.m. while police investigated.
Police have since identified the jumper, who died, as 35-year-old Jeremy Eckels.
Eckels was scheduled to appear in court Friday. He was facing multiple charges and accused of stealing thousands of dollars from several people in the Pikes Peak Region.
In June, 2010 FOX21 News ran a story about Eckels, who was the owner of JE Concrete and allegedly scammed several customers.
Alleged victims said Eckels would take their money for materials and then skip out on the work, or only complete a portion of it.
Friday Eckels was supposed to appear in court for sentencing in one of four open cases against him.
Court officials said Friday, had Eckels pled guilty to theft, a class three felony, he would have faced up to four years in prison and been required to pay about $16,000 in restitution.
But Eckels never appeared.
Police said just after 10 a.m. he jumped from the top of the Alamo building in the 100 block of South Tejon Street just blocks from the court house.
