Fort Carson soldier faces murder charge

FORT CARSON, COLO. -- A Fort Carson soldier who was deployed to Afghanistan is now facing a murder charge after allegedly killing an an Afghan prisoner.

Private First Class David Lawrence was referred for general court martial on one count of premeditated murder in the death of the Afghan detainee.

The general court martial is the Army's method of determining if a soldier is innocent or guilty. Fort Carson officials said the date for the martial is not yet determined.

Lawrence is part of the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. If he is found guilty, he will face life in prison without parole, reduction to E-1, dishonorable discharge, and he will have to give up all of his pay and allowances.
