COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Air Force officials have confirmed the identity of an officer who died Wednesday in a plane crash at the Colorado Springs Airport.
The military said 25 year old, 1st Lt. Martin Anthony Riggan and his wife died after their Mooney M20E aircraft crashed east of the runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration said Riggan had aborted one landing attempt and was preparing for another when the plane crashed.
Airport officials said it was foggy and visibility was low at the time.
Riggan was a B-1B Lancer pilot stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.
He was also a 2007 graduate from the Air Force Academy.
