DENVER (AP) -- The U.S. Census says Colorado's population has grown by almost 17 percent in the last 10 years.
Colorado's population now officially stands at 5,029,196, compared with 4.3 million in 2000.
The U.S. Census released the population counts Tuesday. They're meant to determine which states will gain or lose seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Colorado was among 32 states that did not gain or lose a seat. States that gained seats include Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and Utah.
The biggest winner was Texas with four seats gained. New York and Ohio each lost two seats.
More detailed Census data will be released in the coming months and some of that information will help states with their congressional redistricting.
