FORT CARSON, COLO. (AP) -- The father of a Fort Carson soldier charged with fatally shooting a jailed Taliban member in Afghanistan says his son has been transferred to a mental health facility.
Brett Lawrence says his son, Pfc. David Lawrence, was admitted to a facility in Colorado on Thursday.
The father says he doesn't know its name or location. Fort Carson officials say they can't comment because of privacy rules.
Twenty-year-old David Lawrence, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., is charged with premeditated murder in the Oct. 17 shooting death of the Taliban member in a cell at a U.S. outpost in southern Afghanistan.
Lawrence's attorney says the soldier was taking an antidepressant at the time, and since then has been taking another drug for schizophrenia.
