ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- Arizona Sen. John McCain urged Colorado Republicans to choose Jane Norton in next week's Senate GOP primary, saying "we need a lot of help" in the Senate.

McCain met with reporters in a Denver suburb Sunday morning before flying to Grand Junction with Norton for a rally.

Norton, a former lieutenant governor, faces a spirited challenge next week from Weld County prosecutor Ken Buck.

Norton was co-chair of McCain's Colorado campaign during the 2008 presidential race, and she has been criticized by some conservatives as being too cozy with McCain.

Norton told reporters Sunday that she "won't always agree" with McCain, but called him a hero and thanked him for supporting her.
