COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs Rescue Mission needs your help to make this Easter a little happier for the less fortunate.

The mission’s annual Easter dinner doesn’t have enough food to feed all the people they expect.

The springs rescue mission is expected to feed 1200 people this Saturday, but they don’t have anywhere near enough ham to serve that many people.

FOX21 stopped in this afternoon at the springs rescue mission as they were serving dinner.

Each day the mission serves 700 meals to hungry people.

And when a holiday approaches that number soars over a thousand.

“The cupboards are a little bit bare right now so we're hoping the community will come forward and they will Colorado Springs is an incredible community to live in," Director of Programs for the mission Lyn Harwell said.

This Saturday the mission will host its annual Easter dinner with the help of the First Presbyterian Church.

"There is going to be Easter baskets for the kids, there is going to be some fun some Easter egg hunts, some gifts for the kids, some bike giveaways," Harwell said.

And there's supposed to be a traditional ham dinner with all the fixings. But right now there aren't enough hams.

Harwell says now that the holidays have passed, sometimes the needy are forgotten.

"At Thanksgiving and Christmas time there is a lot of giving, a lot of softened hearts. And as we get into tax season and we come into spring it’s a little tougher to get people to rise to the occasion," Harwell said.

But Harwell says there are still plenty of hungry mouths in Colorado Springs.

“The important message is the need is still here," Harwell said.
