WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) -- Police in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge say a suspect in a stolen SUV fired on officers and then hit a police car head-on, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
Police say no officers were hit by gunfire and no one was seriously hurt in the incident Tuesday morning. Television helicopter video showed a dazed suspect collapsing on a sidewalk and being loaded into an ambulance, but no specifics were available.
Security was tightened at nearby schools but classes went on as scheduled.
Police say an officer thought the SUV was stalled and stopped to assist when shots were fired at him.
The SUV drove off with two police vehicles in pursuit. The crash ocurred about three miles away.
