Fort Carson soldier killed by IED on Sunday

FORT CARSON, COLO. -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Pfc. JR Salvacion, 27, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, died Feb. 21 at Senjaray, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson.

He joined the U.S. Army in February 2009 and joined the current unit in July 2009. He worked as an infantryman.

The awards Salvacion received include: National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal.
