COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Around 170 Fort Carson soldiers were welcomed back to the Mountain Post early Tuesday morning.
Friends and family were up late to greet members of the 4th Engineer Battalion, who arrived around 2:30 a.m.
They were originally expected to arrive Feb. 10, but were delayed.
During their year-long deployment, these engineers conducted more than 1,700 operations to clear improvised explosive devices (EIDs) from roadways in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They also executed the largest shift of a battalion-sized unit from one theater to another since WWII.
