COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- It was confirmed that on Friday, Feb. 12, 49 of the 50 states had snowfall on the ground.
The only state to be snow-free? Maybe Hawaii. However, researchers are searching shaded areas around Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa mountains to include the state.

UPDATE: Dan Birchall has photographed snow patches from a December snowstorm atop Mauna Kea.
This is such a rare event that there are no previous records for this happening. An unusually powerful southern storm dumped snowfall from Dallas, Texas, to the Panhandle of Florida. In some cases, this was record snow.
A college student from Oklahoma decided to take advantage of the historic day. Patrick March has been collecting pictures and video of snow from all over the nation. See what snow looks like in other states on his slideshow: http://www.patricktmarsh.com/snow-shot-of-america/.
