DURANGO, Colo. (AP) -- The roof of a Durango ballroom has collapsed under the weight of heavy snow.
No one was hurt early Thursday when the roof caved at the 7,000-square-foot ballroom andconference center at the Iron Horse Inn. A night employee heard the crash at about 3:15 a.m.
The roof collapse follows several heavy snows in southwest Colorado. Earlier in the week La Plata County officials warned flat-top roofs were at risk because several feet of snow have fallen in the last couple weeks. Durango got about 18 inches of snow on Monday.
Two avalaches have closed roads in La Plata, and a weekend snow slide crashed through a house. No one has been injured.
Several mountain passes in southwest Colorado have been closed because of avalache danger.
