Former Denver Broncos quaterback John Elway
DENVER (AP) -- A company accused of duping investors out of $30 million hired former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway to speak at two events in Colorado.
The Denver Post reported Wednesday that the two-time Super Bowl champion spoke at conferences in Denver and Colorado Springs for Speed of Wealth LLC.
The Securities and Exchange Commission alleges that the Centennial, Colo.-based company was used to find investors for Pennsylvania-based Mantria Corp. Authorities allege the companies were running a Ponzi-like scheme that lured 300 investors nationwide in purported eco-friendly investments.
Speed of Wealth founder Wayde McKelvy sent an e-mail to customers denying the allegations.
Elway's business manager says he didn't promote specific investments, endorse the company or invest personally in Mantria or Speed of Wealth.
