DENVER (AP) -- Colorado Attorney General John Suthers has been elected chairman of the Conference of Western Attorneys General.

In his announcement Monday, Suthers said he will focus on water issues affecting the 15 Western states and three Pacific Ocean territories the organization covers. Suthers was elected chairman during the organization's annual meeting in Sun Valley, Idaho, which ends Wednesday.

Suthers previously served as vice chairman of the organization, which provides a forum for attorneys general to discuss and collaborate on issues important to the region.
