OKLAHAMA CITY -- Robert J. Ross, president and CEO of Inasmuch Foundation, announced today the distribution of $119,300 in grants to 11 organizations in Colorado Springs.

Edith Kinney Gaylord founded Inasmuch Foundation in 1982 to support charitable, scientific and educational causes that enhance the progress and quality of life for Oklahomans.

Gaylord was the daughter of publisher and editor of The Oklahoman and Oklahoma City Times. She was a Colorado College (CC) student until her junior year when she transferred to Wells College in Aurora, New York. After college, she too became a journalist and writer as her father, and once traveled with Madam Chiang Kai-shek for AP assignments. Later, she became a charter trustee at CC and established endowments at the college. She died on Jan. 28, 2001, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, the same hospital where she'd been born 84 years earlier.

Today, the Foundation is committed to carrying on the interests of its late founder by giving to education, health and human services, cultural organizations, the arts, historic preservation and environmental concerns.    

“We are pleased to announce grants supporting outstanding organizations making Colorado Springs a better place for its citizens,” said Ross. “In these difficult economic times, we believe it is imperative to support nonprofit organizations that recognize the importance of utilizing limited resources efficiently to ensure the continuity and, when possible, the expansion of services.”

Organizations awarded grants from Inasmuch Foundation are:  

• $25,000 to Colorado Springs School for restoration of the Trianon's windows
• $20,000 to the Center for Nonprofit Excellence for the training phase of the Standards for Excellence project
• $15,000 to Community Partnership for Child Development for the Colorado Preschool Program
• $10,000 to FutureSelf for program support
• $10,000 to Partners in Housing for general operating support
• $10,000 to Peak Vista Community Health Centers for Well Child Waiting Areas, providing healthy children with a play area to wait while siblings, parents or guardians attend appointments
• $10,000 to Pikes Peak Community Action Agency for general operating support
• $5,000 to Franciscan Community Counseling for mental health counseling for the uninsured and underinsured
• $5,000 to Greccio Housing for emergency necessities, such as bus tickets, food, rent and utilities assistance, for residents
• $5,000 to Westside CARES for direct services to clients, including rent, transportation and prescription assistance
• $4,300 to Project Angel Heart for home-delivered meals for Colorado Springs residents living with life-threatening illnesses
