Ken Jordan remembered

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Friends and family have remembered the sacrifice of one Colorado Springs police officer who was murdered two years ago by dedicating a park in his memory.

The park is named after Ken Jordan, the Springs police officer gunned down during a DUI traffic stop in 2006. Marco Lee is accused of shooting Jordan several times during a field sobriety test.

Lee is charged with first degree murder. If he is convicted, prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.

During Friday's dedication ceremony, fellow officers remembered Jordan's sacrifice, and shared why Ken Jordan Park is the perfect memorial for the fallen officer.

The dedication ceremony was an opportunity to applaud Jordan.

"Today was not a sad day, but a happy day because a beautiful park is being dedicated to someone very special," said one officer.

"This park and dedication celebrates Ken Jordan's life. That's really what defined him is how he lived not how he died," said another.

"A life of adventure a life of service to his family and community," added a third officer.

Colleagues say the 3.3 acre park gives the community a bit of insight into the way Jordan lived.

Comments by fellow officers praised the kind of man he was. "A life of adventure a life of service to his family and community." "The park is a fitting place for Jordan's park this a is a great place because he loved children and especially his nieces and nephews." "Ken was an avid outdoorsman who loved kayaking, hunting, fishing, and hiking."

Jordan's fellow officers describe him as a man who didn't look for recognition, but say that if he was going to be recognized, a park was the way to do it.

"It means everything that the community would come together and build a park in memory of him and in dedication of his service to the city," said an officer.

"Jordan we love you and we miss you, thank you," said another.

Jordan's family was at the ceremony, but did not speak publicly.

The park was funded through the city's TOPS program. It uses a small percentage of the city sales tax to raise money for parks.
