COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A 71-year-old woman says she was sexually assaulted during a home invasion late Thursday evening, according to police.
The suspect remains on the run.
At about 10:15 p.m., police were called to a home on East Boulder Street on the report of a sexual assault and a home invasion.
Police said a 71-year-old woman told them that she was watching TV when she saw someone looking through her bedroom window. The woman, who lives alone, then got her handgun.
As the woman was leaving the bedroom and standing in the hall, police said the door busted open and a man rushed at her. The man, according to police, attacked her before she could fire her gun.
The woman's gun was knocked out of her hand by the suspect before he threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, police said.
After the assault, police said the man picked up the gun from the floor and ordered the woman to give him her wallet. She gave him her wallet and about $100 in cash before he fled.
The suspect is described as a black man, six-feet tall with a medium build and about 25 years old. He had short cropped hair and no facial hair, police said.
He was wearing a one-piece, tan "jumpsuit" style outfit. The outfit could possibly be a Carhartt style of overalls, police said. Additionally, he was wearing tan work boots.
According to the victim, the suspect said he was homeless. He stole a double-sized comforter from the sofa, police said. That blanket was light blue on one side and light blue on the other.
Any information on this crime can be reported to police at 444-7000 or to Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-STOP.
