We now know the  name of the Pueblo officer who was shot on New Years Day.

Pueblo police say Officer Ed Slattery was shot following a short chase in Pueblo's Midtown. Slattery suffered a gunshot wound to his left shoulder; the bullet exited out his back. He was released from the hospital and will be back at work when he has fully recovered.

The incident began with a shots fired call, and when police arrived, a car with multiple occupants fled the area. Police pursued the vehicle, and after a crash, the occupants tried to flee on foot. Some of the cars occupants were arrested at the crash scene. Once suspect however, later identified as 20 year old Christopher Tavares, fired a shot towards officers and then ran towards Highway 50 and Elizabeth. When police located him, he was shot by police as he reached for something, and died at the scene.

Slattery has been with the department since October 2011, and prior to that, he was with Canon City Police for 11 years.
