COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Snowfall in the Pikes Peak Region is causing the evening commute to become dangerous, according to police.

The Colorado Springs Police Department was placed on 'Accident Alert' status at about 5:20 Tuesday afternoon because of the road conditions.

That means drivers who are involved in a crash with no fatality or injury and the drivers are not suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs do not have to immediately report the the crash to police. Instead, those involved can go online to www.SpringsGov.com and report the crash, according to the police guidelines.

Police remind residents to take ample time to travel.

Both the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County officials said they have crews out working.

According to the county, roads were "extremely slick" over the north areas of El Paso County and out east. High winds are also causing high drifts throughout the county.
