DENVER (AP) -- Colorado Democrats say they'll unveil a package of gun legislation aimed at curbing violence in the wake of last summer's Aurora theatre and the shootings at a Connecticut elementary school.

Democrats in the Legislature have spoken for weeks about working to craft gun bills, and they planned to announce what those are Tuesday morning.

Some possibilities include expanding background checks on sales between private sellers and limits on high-capacity magazines. An assault-weapons ban is also possible.

The Legislature has already rejected GOP ideas to reduce gun violence, including a measure to allow school employees to carry concealed weapons.

Both parties have indicated they support increasing mental health services and trying to prevent the mentally ill from having access to firearms, but neither side has provided many details.
