COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs City Council has given final approval to a new panhandling law that would ban solicitation downtown.

The ordinance bans all forms of solicitation in a twelve-square block zone in the heart of downtown and includes charitable solicitations, like the Salvation Army and Girl Scouts.

The new law is part of a larger plan by mayor Steve Bach to increase safety downtown.

The Gazette reports other efforts include increased foot patrols and thirteen surveillance cameras that are scheduled to be up and running December 7.
