COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado State troopers said a man died at a Colorado Springs hospital Tuesday morning evening after crashing in Otero County Monday evening.
Troopers said 54-year-old Rocky Ford resident Kevin Smith was driving his pickup truck west on Otero County Road JJ.5 around 8:15 p.m. when he ran a stop sign at County Road 808, left the road, went airborne and collided with the wall of a dry irrigation canal.
Smith was taken to a medical center, then to a Colorado Springs hospital after suffering several broken bones and internal injuries.
He died around 12:47 a.m.
Troopers don't yet know if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
