CANON CITY, COLO. -- A prison inmate was killed while working on a hydraulic dump truck early Monday morning.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m., at the East Canon Complex, authorities said.

According to the Colorado Department of Corrections, the inmate, identified as George Kronsbein, was killed while working at the DOC Fleet Service Station.

Authorities said the death is under investigation by the Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General.

The Fleet Service station, according to officials, is operated by Colorado Correctional Industries and provides maintenance and repairs to DOC state vehicles. Ten to 15 trained inmate workers are employed there.
