FOUNTAIN, COLO. -- Gym class at Fountain-Fort Carson High School got a little cleaner thanks to a gift from a local doctor.
We all know gym time isn't usually a clean time. A high school gym sees it's fair share of dirty sneakers, sweaty socks and hands rubbed in the dirt after push-ups.
P.E. teacher Matt Sutter said of all places in a school, it's where the cleaning is needed most.
"With lots of students using little equiptment, things get passed around from student to student," he said, "You can really tell the difference when one student gets sick and then it's kind of like a domino effect."
He said around 800 students use the school's gym each day.
But among the bleachers, nets, and stray balls lies a solution.
It's called "The Germ Ninja."
It's an easy fix. Put the germy ball in the top, flip the switch, and they pop out the bottom clean as ever.
"Ultraviolet rays clean the bacteria off the ball," Sutter explained.
The name is fitting. The machine blends in to the side of the court seamlessly.
Inconspicous as the ninja itself may be, P.E. teachers and students are noticing it's effects.
"After the flu season was over, we've been using it and attendance has been gradually going up," Sutter said.
