Caplan suggests that knowing what you're allergic to extremely helpful to fighting it.

"Getting skin-tested is an easy procedure," said Caplan. "A lot of people in Colorado have issues because of the altitude and dryness. So they're actually not allergic at all. So taking those over-the-counters like Zyrtec and Claritin isn't gonna help them."

But if it is allergies that's getting you down, there's a natural remedy that helps both you and the local economy.

"I always encourage people to take local honey because it tastes delicious, number one," said Caplan. "And number two a lot of people report it really helps their allergies. "

It's something John Hartley has known for years. He started keeping bees years ago in the military.

"And when we came out here after we retired I needed a small sideline thing," said Black Forest Honey's, John Hartley. "And the wife said you're not gonna sit here watching soap operas and a couch potatoes."

He says natural, raw honey has amazing health benefits, including suppressing allergies. As the bees produce honey, they introduce local pollen into their product.

"If you can get raw, local honey, about a tablespoon a day for allergies and I have several people just for allergies and they all seem to be...to say it improves it," said Hartley.

It's said that you should try to eat honey that is harvested 50 miles from where you live. So the similar plant-life and pollen has been introduced.
