COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Nearly three years of work and 20-hour days have come down to this - the final 24 hours before the Mining Exchange, a Wyndham Hotel, opens.

"All of a sudden carpets are done, the paint is done, amenities are going in the rooms, and we open doors tomorrow," Tyler Sherman, General Manger of the Mining Exchange, said.

The latest owner of the former Adams Bank is keeping the charm of the more than 100-year-old structure.

Keeping the history of the building means 17 fully functioning safes have now been converted into housekeeping and massage rooms, but old world charm comes with some old world problems.

"Even when we thought it was completely gutted there's things you can't anticipate," Perry Sanders, Owner of the Mining Exchange, said.

The total price of the of project is a little more than $30 million, double what Sanders had anticipated.

But the renovations have been worth it as they combine original building elements with modern day.

"Ever single room in the entire hotel has a two-person, two-head shower. We're encouraging people to bring with you your significant other and have a good time," Perry Sanders, Owner of the Mining Exchange, said.

Phase 1 of the opening will include 57 guest rooms, the lobby and one ballroom

Phase 2 will bring an additional 60 rooms, 30 days later.

Opening the hotel Wednesday is the final step in turning the Mining Exchange into the gold standard for doing business.
