COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- With the busy tourist season upon us, one local store is trying to use the tourism to help those is desperate need.
Karibu African Imports is a store in Old Colorado City. Marilyn Cohn buys African goods and sell them from the store. The money made from the purchases goes right back to the orphans and residents of Africa who use that money for schooling and everyday needs. They also provide emotional, physical, and spiritual support to the orphans.
The recent devastating drought has left a widespread famine in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia. This money will help go the the refugees who are seeking food and water.
"When you go and see how people live on another part of the world, it breaks your heart. We want to help them," Cohn says.
The ministry is part of Chosen Children International based in Colorado Springs. They operate schools in Kenya which provide free education while teaching life skills and Biblical principles. Educational opportunities, as they stand now, are very limited in Kenya, so the need is great. Cohn plans to extend the ministry into other parts of Kenya.
