The first baby born in 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A local family is celebrating the New Year by welcoming their newest member.
Vivian Rayne Travis was the first baby to be born in Colorado Springs this year, arriving at Memorial Hospital North. She's 7 pounds 11.4 ounces of promise and positivity for her family, which is hoping to see more success in 2013.
When asked what this year would bring for him, father Richard Travis said, "another mouth to feed."
He's currently unemployed after being injured, hoping to find a job soon to fill their fifth little belly. But Richard is passing on his blue eyes and bubbly personality. This father of 5 couldn't do much more than giggle as he held his little girl Tuesday afternoon. Vivian has a sweet little smile that her dad will point out whenever he can.
He'll also explain that this attention wasn't the plan. "We didn't know this was going to happen until about 11:50 last night," he explained, "I was excited at first, and then when we found out this morning I was overjoyed."
Vivian was due December 31st, but doctors decided to induce labor around 6:30 p.m. when they realized this baby was holding on tight.
This New Year's newborn held out until 12:13 am on January 1, 2013. She got to ring in the new year with her 4 brothers and sisters who are still figuring out what this new addition means for them. Dad said, "I'm not sure it's set in that they get to take her home yet!"
Although some worry the 13th year of this millenium may bring back luck along with it's unlucky number, Richard said Vivian is proof this year will be better.
"In my life, everything's looking up." he said, "So I hope she is a good luck baby. I hope she's happy and I hope everyone else is happy too."
