DENVER (AP) -- Colorado's top judge is heading to the state Capitol to talk to lawmakers just before a sprawling new judicial building opens nearby.

Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Bender is giving his annual State of the Judiciary address to lawmakers. The speech is the judiciary's annual opportunity to personally update lawmakers and ask for legislation.

Bender could be saying thanks to lawmakers, too. Next week the Supreme Court, the attorney general and the appellate courts start work in a new judicial center near the Capitol. The Supreme Court has been working in temporary housing in a nearby office building since 2010.

The Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center is named for Colorado's 29th governor, who served from 1939 to 1943.
