DENVER (AP) -- A Democrat from Longmont has introduced two bills aimed at the oil and gas industry.

House Bill 1267, introduced Monday by Rep. Mike Foote, would impose a mandatory fine of at least $5,000 per day for drilling violations that have a significant adverse impact on public health, safety, welfare, the environment or wildlife resources. It also would raise the cap on daily fines from $1,000 to $15,000, and there would be no cap on maximum total fines.

House Bill 1269 would prohibit members of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from working for an oil and gas company while serving on the commission. Current requirements are for the commission to have three members with substantial oil and gas experience, and some members work within the industry.
