TELLER COUNTY, COLO. -- Last July the Kreashko family fishing trip to Rosemont Reservoir turned into a day they will never forget.

Two young men were jumping off a dam nearby. When he saw one of the young swimmers couldn't make it back to shore Anthony Kreashko immediately jumped into action to rescue the young swimmer.

"My brother has a hidden hero within himself." Tony's sister Emily Vanley said.

Kreashko was in the water at least 45 minutes. Each try he tried to drive a little further.

"I thought I was getting closer but he was still sinking. At that point I couldn't get to him." Kreashko explained.

Tony stayed submerged under water with the help of his father and sister. The cold waters almost caused him to go into shock.

"I thought I was getting closer but he was still sinking," Kreashko said. "At that point I couldn't get to him.

"Sometimes if you think about it, it takes too long. That second that you think about it something else can change."

When you hear of heroes we often think of athletes and courageous people. Tony doesn’t believe he deserves this title.

He said he still carries the guilt of not being able to save one of the divers.

Tony was speechless when he found out his sister nominated him for the Hometown Heroes recognition.

"I cried. I was not expecting it at all. So I guess it was kind of humbling experience for me that my sister thought so much of me," Tony said.

"It was hard to see the emotion afterward because he was only successful once." Emily said. "My brother is a hero in my heart."

The Hometown Heroes will receive their awards March 21 at the Antler's Hilton.

You can find information and tickets to the event, plus how to become a volunteer at www.pparc.org.
