COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- Officials at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs say one of their newest tenants, a 7-year-old howler monkey named Eva, got a brief taste of freedom this weekend when she escaped her enclosure and climbed on top of the monkey pavilion.

Zoo spokeswoman Jenny Hillard tells The Gazette the small monkey escaped Saturday afternoon after pulling back some of the mesh of her enclosure. Visitors spotted Eva on the roof and pointed her out to zoo officials.

For about an hour, the sly little monkey snubbed efforts by staff to tempt her back into her enclosure with food. She was eventually captured with a net.

Hillard says Eva escaped through a space that staff didn't think she could get through.
