COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- Gov. John Hickenlooper says Colorado Springs needs to attract more young people if community leaders want their economy to grow.

In an interview with the Colorado Springs Gazette on Thursday, the governor said Fort Collins and Durango have invested in bike paths and things that are more youth-oriented. He says new economies are based on attracting young people.

The governor says he believes Colorado Springs isn't getting its share of the 25- to 34-year-old crowd that has been migrating in droves to Colorado. He says that may be why the local unemployment rate is stagnant at about 9 percent, while the state's rate got down to 7.8 percent in November.
