EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- Members of President Obama's campaign have been going door-to-door in Colorado Springs offering to take voters' ballots to drop-off locations.
The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office confirmed the action Monday after a Mitt Romney campaign representative from Arizona called to complain, saying those actions are illegal.
But they are indeed legal.
In Colorado, partisan campaign representatives are allowed to collect up to 10 ballots from voters and take them to drop-off locations. Officials said the law was originally designed as another way for candidates to get out and meet voters individually while saving them a trip to a drop box.
Several states have made it illegal to collect ballots on behalf of a political party, but it is still legal in Colorado.
Representatives of Obama's campaign confirmed Monday that they are indeed on the streets collecting, while Romney officials said they have not been.
Officials said the Obama campaign has not done anything illegal.
The election is Tuesday, and polls close at 7 p.m. in Colorado.
